A Wonderful Small Tudor Oak Panel
Carved with a half-portrait of a noble lady, her hair gathered within a fretted cap, or bonnet, tied at the back with ribbon in a bow. The subject has well-defined features and an elegant neck within a tall ruff collar. Her blouse has the exaggerated “padded” shoulders, the height of fashion within mid-16th century society.
The bust sits within a simple Gothic arch, supported on tapering semi-circular pillars, with stylised leaves in the corners.
